CAREER...
An audiologist's working hours would be about 37 hours a week. An audiologist can be based in a consultation room within a private hospital or an NHS. This job can be rewarding but an audiologist may also face challenges. For example, if an audiologist gives bad news to his or her patients about their prognosis and hearing, some patients are frustrated and the audiologist may occasionally face verbally aggressive behaviour.

To become an audiologist, some qualifications must be obtained. The aspirant will be assessed in his or her workplace as a part of his or her postgraduate and undergraduate degree. If the person is eligible, he can register with the Council for Clinical Physiologists. Throughout the career of an audiologist, he or she needs to keep up-to-date with the advancements in clinical procedures and technology.

There are great opportunities in this career. An audiologist finds jobs within the ENT (ear, nose and throat) or Audiology departments in private hospitals or the NHS. When an audiologist gains experience, he or she can be promoted to lead a team, handle a unit, or move into a general management position in mainstream healthcare. An audiologist can also go on into research work, or teach in a university.
